Initial opinions of Chris McCandless

My first initial though of Chris was that he is a lost soul who thinks taking this trip to Alaska will define him as a person and help solidify who he wants to be as a person. I think he is so determined to undermine his parents he would risk his own life to do so. I think also he has a very hard time cutting off completely. That's why he goes back and forth between not having a job and having a job. He also sways back and forth with his relationships with other people. One moment he will be talking about how great it is to be alone and the next moment he's hitch hiking across the country to see a person. His ultimate fear is commitment. Whether that be to money or to love or to being fully "into the wild."  I mean if he really wanted to go completely without depending on manly possessions he wouldn't have stayed in the bus. There have been other people who have completely reverted back to a primal state and if he truly wanted to cut loose from everything he would've done that.

John Lennon

John Lennon was a leader in the music industry and considered a visionary by many.  He changed music and pop culture forever and can be one of the most influential people in defining "rock music" as well.  This quote was something said in an interview with The Beatles about the statement John said, "We're bigger than Jesus."  Referring to their popularity.  It was a big issue in the U.S. because of the religious beliefs here.  This quote means that in time everything will work out.  There are times where things really start to take a turn for the worse and in those times its important for us to remember that everything will work itself out.  I again completely agree with this quote, and it has been a quote I try to live my life by.  I think that the context the quote was spoken in wasn't the best of circumstances but the message still remains good despite everything else.

Into the Wild differencesk

The movie definitely takes Alex's view point; explaining things through his point of view and agreeing with basically everything he says which would be very hard to do.  The things they have him saying in the movie are not objective, they are completely subjective hinging on Alex's view.  

The  movie does not follow the exact chronological order that the book follows.

The move also ad-libs some things as well, interpreting parts of Alex's journal to fit the plot of the movie

The belt that it shows him punching new holes in the bus was in fact given away before he headed off for Alaska

 

Mr Bean sympathetic

Poor Mr Bean, that bully pushed him out of the way and was mean to him for no good reason.  He did nothing to warrant that kind of treatment.  That bully even forced him to drink soap.  Mr Bean had every right to do what he did in retaliation to that mean bully.

Mr Bean angry

This clip has no particular plot.  It has no character development and no names for characters other than Mr Bean.  Mr Bean acts rather cleverly in response to being pushed away from the washing machine by the bully.  In the end though, he is still left drinking soap wearing a skirt.  Mr Bean seems to not be very intelligent if he ends up if he ends up that way. I mean what was he thinking taking the soap cup with him.  He should've just stood up for himself instead of trying to be sly.  

Favorite Movie Character

The Punisher is one of my favorite characters.  The reason for this is because he takes matters into his own hands.  He has a problem and deals with it in his own way.  He is bound by the genre of "shoot 'em up" movies mainly because if he was in a romantic comedy it would drastically change the genre.  He also could not exist in a real society, mainly because if he was killing all of those people in real life he would've been caught and arrested.  There have been people who try to live like him, "above the law", but they always end up caught and incarcerated.  You might be able to say that the character of, someone who has been wronged and rises up against adversity, is a universal character.  There are many other books, and movies who use this character as their protagonist but nobody does it quite like The Punisher.  He is very good at revenge, using torturing people, and killing them in interesting ways to avenge his family.  He is the main character of the story therefore without him there would be no story.  He and his family make up most of the cast so without them there would be no story.  

Favorite Movie

I personally look for a movie that does not follow a typical plot.  What I mean by this, if at the beginning of a movie two people magically fall in love and then they are "torn apart."  You can assume that movie will follow the plot progression of; they're torn apart, they continue to talk, talking stops, girl "finds" someone else  but secretly has feelings for the previous guy, previous guy comes out of nowhere and stops the wedding, then he gets the girls.  I can't really think of a favorite movie of mine.  I think maybe movie might be "Lion King."  Solely because it was the first movie I remember watching as a child.  Although it does follow one of the "standard" plots it helped shape my childhood and has a special place in my life.  Another movie that I enjoy is "Goodfellas."  This movie follows what is now considered to be a "standard" plot but, at the time is was very original.  I enjoy all of the actors performances and how vulgar, violent, and very antiestablishment it was.  All of the things you need for a great Mob movie were present in this movie.  Robert DeNiro plays his part magnificently, and Ray Liotta delivers a stunning and realistic performance as well.
